PRE/POST NATAL

Exercise is good for everyone, especially pregnant women and new mothers. Research has demonstrated that compared to non-exercising counterparts, pregnant and postpartum women who exercise regularly experience the following benefits:

  • increased cardiovascular fitness

  • reduced backaches, bloating, constipation, and swelling

  • decreased leg cramping

  • decreased accumulation of fat

  • improvement in mood, energy, posture, and sleep

  • decreased likelihood of requiring intervention during delivery (such as pitocin, augmentation, or use of vaccum or forceps)

  • less time spent in active labor

  • less time spent pushing

  • quicker return to pre-pregnancy weight

(ACOG 2011, Clapp 2002; Sampselle et al. 1999; Ohlin & Rossner 1996)

Studies have shown that it is not only safe, but recommended, for most women to exercise throughout their entire pregnancies. Howerver, it is important that a few modifications be made in regards to intensity, positioning, hydration, and overheating. Donna Anderson has a specialty certification for pre and postnatal fitness and can implement a safe and effective regimen to optimize your health. Further consultation with your obstetrician will determine if there are any specific recommendations or contraindications.

I was able to work out with Donna up until the day before I gave birth. I highly recommend Donna to any prenatal woman.

Whether you feel like personal training or group classes are the best fit, you can work out safely while pregnant and return once the baby is born.
